How do I make band stickers that sell at the merch table?

Band stickers sell best when they are simple, bold and easy to read from a few feet away: your logo or one strong image, high contrast, in a 3 to 4 inch size that fits a laptop, water bottle or guitar case. Bring a few designs instead of one, display them where people can see them while they wait, and make them cheap enough to be an impulse add-on to a shirt.

Design for across the room

Fans see your merch table from a distance, in bad light, while the next band is loading in. The stickers that sell are readable at a glance:

  • One idea per sticker: the logo, an album image or a short lyric.
  • Thick lines and high contrast. Fine detail disappears at 3 inches.
  • Your band name somewhere on it, so the sticker advertises you after the show.

Sizes fans actually buy

Around 3 to 4 inches is the sweet spot. It fits laptops, water bottles, guitar cases and car windows. Very small stickers feel like freebies. Very large ones are hard to place, so fans skip them.

How many designs and how many stickers

A small mix of 2 to 4 designs gives people a choice without overwhelming the table. Fans who buy one often buy two. For quantities, base your order on how many people buy merch at a typical show multiplied by the number of dates, and reorder the designs that sell out.

Pricing to fans

Price stickers as an easy add-on that people grab without thinking, and offer a bundle with a shirt. Check what similar bands charge in your scene. What you charge is up to you; the point is that stickers are the cheapest way to take your band home.

Make them last

Fans put stickers on things that get wet and beat up. Waterproof laminated vinyl custom stickers survive water bottles, rain and road cases, so your name stays visible for years instead of peeling off in a week.

Display them

Put stickers at eye level, close to where people pay, with the price clearly marked. A sample stuck to a guitar case or road case shows people what it looks like on real gear.

Related questions

What shape should band stickers be?
Die-cut to the shape of your logo or artwork looks the most professional and stands out on a laptop. Circles and rectangles work well for text-heavy designs.
Should we give stickers away for free?
Many bands sell stickers and give a free one with a shirt purchase. Free stickers are also good for mailing-list signups at the table.
Can we print several designs in one order?
Yes. A multi-design order lets you split one quantity across several designs, which is ideal for testing which design sells best.
