Is it cheaper to print my own stickers at home?
Printing stickers at home costs roughly $0.30 to $0.80 per finished sticker once you count sticker paper, ink and laminating sheets, plus your cutting time. It works for small indoor runs. Home inkjet ink is water soluble and not UV stable, so DIY stickers fade and run outdoors. Ordering printed vinyl beats DIY on both cost and durability from around 100 pieces up.

Count the whole cost, not just the paper
A DIY sticker has four costs people forget to add up:
- Sticker paper or vinyl sheets - the cheapest input, and the one everyone quotes.
- Ink. Full-bleed colour art on an inkjet drinks ink. Cartridge cost per page is usually higher than the paper.
- Laminate sheets. Without them the print is not waterproof or scuff resistant at all.
- Cutting time. Hand cutting or feeding a craft cutter, plus weeding, is real labour.
Add them and most people land between $0.30 and $0.80 per finished sticker at small volume, before counting an hour of their evening.
Where home printing genuinely fails
- Water. Dye inkjet ink runs the first time a bottle sweats.
- Sun. Home inks fade in weeks outdoors, not years.
- Adhesive. Craft sticker paper uses a light adhesive that lifts on curved and textured surfaces.
- Consistency. Colour drifts between batches and cartridges.
When DIY is the right answer
Small indoor runs, prototypes, one-off gifts, testing a design before committing to a print run. Print a cheap version at home, live with it for a week, then order the real one.
The crossover point
At 100 pieces a 3x3 in die-cut laminated vinyl sticker is $0.94 each from us; at 250 it is $0.61, at 500 it is $0.46. Once you are past about 100 stickers, ordering is cheaper than DIY *and* the product is waterproof, UV rated for years outdoors and cut to shape. Below that, DIY is a reasonable stopgap for indoor use.
