What is a die-cut sticker?

A die-cut sticker is a sticker cut all the way through the vinyl and the backing paper along the outline of your design. The finished sticker is the exact shape of your artwork, usually with a thin border around it, instead of a square, circle or rectangle. It is the most popular style for logos, laptops, water bottles and giveaways.

How it is made

The design is printed on vinyl, laminated, and then a cutter follows a cut line traced around the artwork. On a die-cut sticker that cut goes through both layers, so each sticker comes off the roll on its own, already in its final shape.

Die-cut vs other shapes

  • Die-cut: shape of your design, cut through the backing.
  • Kiss-cut: shape of your design, but only the vinyl is cut. The sticker sits on a larger square of backing paper.
  • Circle, square, rectangle: standard shapes, best for text-heavy labels.

Is die-cut right for you?

Choose die-cut when the outline of your logo or character is part of the look. Choose a standard shape if your design is mostly text on a background color. Our builder draws the cut line for you and you approve it on a free digital proof before anything is printed.
