What is the most durable material for custom stickers?

Laminated vinyl. In Stickerine's own durability testing, white, clear, matte and holographic vinyl with UV overlaminate all survived UV exposure, water submersion and 50 dishwasher cycles with no fade and no edge lift, while unlaminated coated paper failed on first water contact. Stickerine includes UV laminate on every die-cut vinyl sticker rather than charging for it.

Which material should you actually order?

White vinyl + UV laminate

The default. Bumpers, water bottles, equipment, packaging seals.

Clear vinyl + UV laminate

Glass, windows, clear packaging where the substrate should show through.

Holographic + UV laminate

Retail, resale, anti-counterfeit seals, anything that has to catch the eye.

Matte vinyl + matte laminate

Photography, premium packaging, anywhere glare is a problem.

Removable vinyl + UV laminate

Laptops, rental property, seasonal promos, anything that comes back off.

Coated paper label, no laminate

Indoor, short-life, cost-sensitive product labels only.

If you are unsure, order laminated white vinyl — it was the strongest all-round performer in every test and it is the default in the Stickerine die-cut configurator. If the sticker has to come back off cleanly, switch the material to removable in the same configurator. If it goes on glass, use clear vinyl, and if it has to be seen from across a room, holographic held up nearly as well as white vinyl in every category.

Three things the test changed our minds about

Laminate outweighs facestock. The gap between laminated and unlaminated stock was larger than the gap between any two laminated materials. That is why we stopped selling laminate as an upgrade and made it standard.
Matte is not weaker, it just looks different. Matte laminate performed identically to gloss on UV and water; it only dulled cosmetically under repeated dishwasher abrasion. Choose gloss or matte on appearance, not on durability.
Removable adhesive is a trade, not a downgrade. It gives up dishwasher and long-term outdoor performance and gives back genuinely clean removal. Ordering permanent adhesive for a laptop is the most common mistake we see.

How we produced this data

Samples were printed on our own production equipment — Epson 11-color UltraChrome wide-format, laminated and contour-cut in line — so every sample is identical to what a customer receives. No sample was hand-finished or specially prepared for the test.

UV: continuous south-facing outdoor exposure on a vertical panel, compared against a stored control of the same print run for visible fade and colour shift. Water: continuous submersion, checked for edge lift, ink bleed and delamination. Dishwasher: 50 full cycles applied to a stainless steel bottle, top rack. Removal: peel test on painted metal at 12 and 24 months, graded on residue.

Outdoor life figures are our own ratings for typical vertical exposure and are conservative. Horizontal surfaces in high-UV climates age significantly faster. We publish only what we measured; where a result is a manufacturer rating rather than a completed observation, it is described as a rating.
